OUR MISSION & HISTORY.

When a girl is given the chance to learn, she doesn’t just change her own future, she transforms the world around her. Founded in 2018, Empower Her began with a simple yet urgent realization: bright, ambitious girls were dropping out of school, not because they lacked potential, but because they lacked basic resources. We met students who had to choose between food and school fees, young girls forced to abandon their education due to societal pressures, and families who desperately wanted to provide but simply couldn’t.
Determined to make a difference, we started by sponsoring one girl’s education. Then another. And another. With the support of our donors and partners, our initiative quickly grew.
Empower Her is committed to UN SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

Globally, an estimated 119 million girls are out of school. Including 34 million of primary school age, and 57 million of upper-secondary school age (UNESCO, 2023). The situation is especially dire in conflict-affected regions, where girls are more than twice as likely to be out of school compared to those in non-conflict areas (UNICEF, 2022). These numbers are not just statistics, they represent individual futures lost to cycles of poverty and inequality.
Families struggling financially often prioritise sons’ schooling, while girls are burdened with domestic responsibilities or seen as ready for marriage once they reach puberty (Human Rights Watch, 2018; Girls Not Brides, 2024). Furthermore, schools lack safe sanitation facilities, making it particularly difficult for girls to attend during menstruation, so they eventually drop out (UNESCO, 2022). A report by the World Bank (2020) notes that over 12 million girls in Pakistan are out of school.
This was the month our idea took place, driven by the belief that every girl deserves a chance to learn.
